You know you’re a style icon when a casual black outfit or a simple black dress is named after you. Audrey Hepburn kept her fashion clean, simple, elegant, relaxed, and was keenly aware of what pieces flattered her body type. She made wearing cigarette pants and ballet flats chic. Some of her other signature looks included head scarves, oversized black sunglasses, and button-down mens’ shirts.
Audrey Hepburn was Givenchy’s lifelong muse. But their relationship didn’t quite start off that way – when Givenchy was told that Hepburn would be seeing him for some dresses for Sabrina, he thought it would be Katharine Hepburn and was disappointed upon seeing Audrey instead. Needless to say, she won the then up and coming designer over. And she seemed to have that effect on men – she was lifelong friends with Gregory Peck, she danced with Fred Astaire, and Cary Grant once said of her “All I want for Christmas is another picture with Audrey Hepburn.” She was beloved by many, she won many awards, she was a style icon, but her greatest role was that of a life-long humanitarian.
