Horseradish Health Benefits

Horseradish might be overbearing for some people, but here’s some things you might not have known about this power horse.

  • It’s a good source of calcium, potassium, and vitamin C, which among other things, help maintain collagen.
  • Known to have diuretic properties, the roots have been used to treat various minor health problems, including urinary tract infections, bronchitis, sinus congestion, ingrowing toenails and coughs. Compounds found in horseradish have been found to kill some bacterial strains.
  • The glucosinolates in the root are thought to increase human resistance to cancer. Glucosinolates are plant compounds that occur only in the plants from the mustard family (horseradish, mustard, broccoli, cauliflower, wasabi). 
  • Glucosinolates can also act as natural antibiotics against different types of infections because they increase blood flow in the infected area and remove the waste products from that region of the body.
